Alexandria, VA

Alexandria's housing is old, dense and full of character — and every one of those qualities makes the work harder. Rowhouses in Old Town, bungalows in Del Ray and mid-century homes near Seminary Hill were built when walls were plastered by hand and nothing came out perfectly square. Trim gets scribed rather than butted, and tile layouts get planned around walls that wander.

That is exactly the kind of work our carpenters prefer. Crown molding, casings and built-ins in a hundred-year-old rowhouse take longer, but the result reads as original rather than added. On bathroom and kitchen remodels we allow for the surprises that older homes reliably produce behind the plaster — knob-and-tube remnants, undersized supply lines, framing that has moved.

Access matters here too. Street parking, shared entries and building rules around work hours all need to be planned before a crew shows up with materials. We sort that out during the estimate so the project does not stall on day one, and we protect finished floors and stairwells on every route in and out.
